3 Peaks Challenge
We currently run two 24hr challenges per year (one in May and one in July). As well as this we run a 3day challenge for the less adventurous as long as there is enough interest.
The aim of the 24hr Challenge is to summit the three highest mountains of England, Scotland & Wales within 24hrs.
The 24 hour challenge includes a minimum drive time of 11 hours, and is an attainable journey time between the mountains so long as you don't encounter any roadwork's, heavy traffic, or make navigational errors.

Bad weather can have a huge knock on effect on your times, as you can see 11hrs of driving and 13hrs of climbing does not leave much time for problems on route. Many teams fail due to poor navigation even in the summer. Mike Buss the Mountain Leader for Swindon Schools 3 Peaks has been up all three of the mountains from great clear summer days to cloud covered stormy weather conditions. Even in summer weather can change up on the mountains in minutes and bring visibility down to only a few feet. Ben Nevis has claimed many lives due to poor visibility, so you should never underestimate conditions at the top of these mountains. Other problems that could cause problems for you include dehydration and exhaustion which could lead to hypothermia and even death. So it is very important to drink plenty of water, if you don’t feel you can carry enough water then you need to carry with you puri-tabs to sterilise water from streams along the way. When thinking about food whilst walking, you need to ‘think on the move’ – Sandwiches, fruit, dried fruit, chocolate.
