Mike's next challenge is to break 20 world fitness records in just 12months!
This former Army Physical Training Instructor with operational experience spent 10yrs with the British Army. It was whilst on operations in N. Ireland that would mark the beginning of the end to Mikes exemplary military career.
Mike had been on a routine patrol taking him to HQ N. Ireland (Lisburn Barracks) whilst on a break at HQNI the first of two explosions from IRA car bombs went off; Mike was standing 20ft from it! Two were killed that day and 31 injured including civilians and children. Mike counted himself lucky, but after several hearing checks Mike was medically discharged and by 2000 he found himself alone in Civi Street.
Left with no idea what he would do in Civi Street Mike bounced from one dead end job to another. Losing all motivation and the will to go on he found himself in London and eventually homeless on the streets of London, another statistic where 1 in 4 homeless on the streets of London are ex-soldiers. This wasn’t because Mike had no money, he did! He just could not adjust to civilian life. After a couple of months of living rough in London Mike remembered reading an article about Paddy Doyle another former soldier who had broken many world fitness records. Mike decided there and then that this would be his drive, his goal, his motivation! HIS PURPOSE IN LIFE!
Since then back in 2001, Mike has been striving to become ‘The Worlds Fittest Man’ and become the record breaker of record breakers by breaking more world records than any other person before him and all in aid of military support charities such as ‘Help for Heroes’ Mikes chosen charity.
Mikes charity aims are to raise £100,000 by Christmas 2010, £500,000 by 2012 and £1,000,000 by 2014.
